Mathematics – Cultural, Social and Technical Option

The Grade 11 Cultural, Science and Technology is taught on how to solve real world problems outside the classroom. The goal of the course is to develop two mathematical competencies. The first competency tests if students are able to solve a situational problem that is most often a real world scenario (30% of their grade) and the second competency which tests their mathematical reasoning (which is comprises 70% of their grade). In this course students will learn how to solve Optimization problems both mathematically and graphically using polygons of constraints, linear functions and solving a system of equations and critical paths. Students will look at various solids such as cones, spheres, cylinders and pyramids to compare their areas and volume. Probability and Odds will test their wits and their lucks and finally they will learn about financial mathematics, in which they are able to calculate such topics as compound interests, value appreciation/depreciation and interests.

Mathematics - SN

The Grade 11 Mathematics course involves teacher instruction and demonstration, student participation, group work, individual study and practice and formal testing. The curriculum follows the textbook, Math 3000, which offers a series of exercises and contextual problems that help students integrate and apply mathematical reasoning. Part of the curriculum involves students solving situational problems which allow students to apply mathematical concepts in daily life situations. Topics covered include: arithmetic and algebraic expressions, optimization, real functions, exponential and logarithmic function, trigonometry, vectors and conics.

Pre-Calculus

The Grade 11 Pre-Calculus course involves teacher instruction and demonstration, student participation, group work, individual study and practice and formal testing. The curriculum follows the workbook, Pre-Calculus 11, which offers a series of exercises and contextual problems that help students integrate and apply mathematical reasoning. Part of the curriculum involves students solving situational problems which allow students to apply mathematical concepts in daily life situations. Topics covered include: sequences and series, trigonometry, functions, radical expressions and equations and rational expressions and equations.

Music

Students are encouraged to express their musical tastes, preferences and goals to aid in the selection of music and instruments. Through group performance, students utilize various sound sources and compositional procedures, using elements of technique and theory, while gaining insight into the music’s history, role in culture, mechanics of performing and recording as well as the effect of their performance on the other performers and on the audience. Playing together is where the tire meets the road – theory and practice united.
