An Unforgettable Experience
As a student of North Star Academy Laval, you will be required to develop a community portfolio. In order to do that, you must research and participate in a community development project. You must complete twenty-five (25) hours in total. Twenty hours (20) should be submitted towards an organization of your choice; the remaining five (5) hours must be dedicated to your school. The latter requires you to select a cause that is important to your school, and fundraise for it. Such a diverse project will encourage learning both inside and outside of school. By contributing to the community, you will have the opportunity to understand your surroundings, as well as the roles you play as student and citizen. It will also provide you with the tools that are necessary to become engaged members of society. Essentially, you will empower yourself with much knowledge and experiences as you participate in this project. The Community Development Portfolio will be used as a tool to research, document and reflect on your service.
The portfolio encourages students to:
- contribute to the school community as well as the community at large
- foster positive relationships within the school and the community
- build knowledge and understanding of the community
- develop awareness and empowerment of the self and society
